Crafting Stories: Mark Roberts and Jon Raymond

The festival kicks off with a special talk Literary Arts (716 SE Grand). Mark Roberts, known for TV shows like “Mike and Molly” and “Two and a Half Men,” alongside Jon Raymond, whose screenwriting credits include “Meek’s Cutoff” and “Mildred Pierce, “will discuss the process of writing for both screen and stage. This event is free to the public and offers a unique opportunity for aspiring writers and established storytellers alike to dive deep into the art of crafting memorable narratives.
Behind the Scenes: Creating Worlds with Digital Technology
Saturday, August 9th, 12:00 pm – 2:00pm, OMSI Auditorium
Artists and animators will explore how digital technology brings animated characters and worlds to life. Panelists will showcase the tools and techniques used to create modern animation, with live demonstrations of tablets like Wacom and other essential technologies. Following the discussion, attendees will have the chance to try out these tools and connect with local film, TV, and animation organizations at dedicated tables.
From 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm, attendees can also participate in a Botjoy Making Workshop with artist Gary Hirsch, where they will create domino Botjoy figures meant to inspire and support local communities.
The Art of Voice Acting in Animation, Ads & Games
Saturday, August 9th, 2:30 pm – 3:30pm, OMSI Auditorium
From 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm, this panel, presented by SAG-AFTRA, takes attendees behind the scenes of voice acting. Discover how voice actors bring animated characters, video game personas, and commercial spots to life. Industry experts will share insights into their creative techniques and provide advice for anyone interested in pursuing voice acting as a career. Panelists include Bob Bergen (“Minions: The Rise of Gru,” “Sing,” “Wreck It Ralph” and many others), Anna Campbell (Apex Legends, God of War), Mike Vaughn (“Scream: The TV Series,” “Web of Shadows”), Marchelle Thurman (“FBI, Law & Order,” “Dynasty,” “NCIS: New Orleans”), and the panel will be moderated by Keythe Farley (MASS EFFECT 2, FALLOUT 4).
Breaking Boundaries with Innovative Distribution Strategies

Independent filmmakers Anna Campbell, Joey Clift, Barret O’Brien, and Kitty Norton will discuss how new digital platforms and crowdfunding are disrupting traditional film distribution. Attendees will learn how today’s creators bypass traditional gatekeepers, using streaming and self-empowered strategies to reach global audiences. This panel will explore innovative ways to distribute work and succeed in today’s evolving media landscape.
Stop-Motion and the Path to Television

This panel will explore how stop-motion animation is transforming television. Panelists, including Melanie Coombs (“In the Know”), Michael Granberry (“Severance,” “Tiny Chef”), Paul Hollingsworth (DC Toybox Adventures, Harry Potter: Magical Movie Moments”) Tom Gibbons (“The Mandalorian” “Poker Face”) and Rob Shaw (Tiny Chef”) will discuss the artistry and technical innovations of stop-motion, and how it has found a home in today’s fast-evolving TV landscape. Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how stop-motion integrates with live-action to create groundbreaking storytelling.

Whether you’re just starting out or looking to refine your approach, this panel will provide practical advice for turning your ideas into funded projects.
